New Name, Same Great Care! Formerly McMaugh DDS.

Tooth extractions are a common dental procedure performed to remove a tooth that is damaged or causing problems. Our practice is committed to ensuring that tooth extractions are carried out with the utmost care and comfort.

Why You Might Need a Tooth Extraction:

  • Severe Decay or Infection: When a tooth is extensively decayed or infected, and other treatments, such as root canal therapy, are not viable, extraction may be necessary.
  • Crowding: In preparation for orthodontic treatment, teeth may need to be removed to create space for proper alignment.
  • Impacted Teeth: Teeth that are trapped in the jawbone or gums and cannot emerge properly, such as wisdom teeth, often need to be extracted.
  • Gum Disease: Advanced periodontal disease can cause teeth to loosen, necessitating their removal to prevent further oral health issues.

The Procedure:

  1. Initial Consultation: Dr. Priyang Chaudhari or Dr. Sumit Moradia will conduct a thorough examination and take X-rays to determine the need for extraction.
  2. Anesthesia: Local anesthesia is administered to numb the area around the tooth, ensuring a pain-free procedure. For more complex cases, sedation or general anesthesia may be used.
  3. Extraction: The tooth is carefully removed. For impacted teeth, an incision may be made in the gum to access the tooth.
  4. Post-Extraction Care: After the extraction, gauze is placed to control bleeding, and you will receive instructions on how to care for the extraction site.

Aftercare:

  • Pain Management: Use prescribed or over-the-counter pain relievers and apply ice packs to reduce swelling and discomfort.
  • Oral Hygiene: Maintain a gentle oral hygiene routine, avoiding the extraction site to prevent dislodging the blood clot.
  • Diet: Eat soft foods and avoid using straws to prevent dry socket.
